5 Tips to Reduce Coronavirus Anxiety
What can you really do to reduce coronavirus anxiety during the pandemic?
Get reading and be sure to share this advice with friends and family too!
“I'm going to get sick.”
“My family are unsafe.”
“Everyone is getting sick.”
“I'm going to lose my job.”
“I can’t pay my bills.”
“It's going to stay like this for ever!”
Any of these resonating? Did you know that 22 % of Londoners have reported feeling panicked during this pandemic? Yes, panic! We need to reduce coronavirus anxiety.
The thing is, it's so easy to let our minds run away with worst case scenarios. To dwell on thoughts, ideas and fears that aren't even a reality. Subduing those thoughts is where the solution lies.
5 ways you can begin to reduce your coronavirus anxiety right now:
Come to the present moment! This is the number 1 way to reduce anxiety.
Why? Well, it makes you step into reality. So when your head is running away with fearful, anxious thoughts, and you come back to the present you step into what is really true. You get back to right here, right now. That way you can relax. Or, if need be, you can plan solutions instead of only seeing problems.
Breathe! This is such a natural way to tackle any anxiety.
Focus on your breath, the vitality of it, the life-giving flow of it, the rhythm. Allow it to bring you to the present. I love to do a focused breathing exercise for at least a minute to get back into a balanced state; breath in for 5, hold for 5, breath out for 5, hold for 5 and repeat. This is very calming, soothing and helps you get back into your resourcefulness! For more information on breathing and mindfulness, check out my article on the Benefits of Meditation.
Get moving! Physical activity can tire the voices in your mind.
If you're feeling anxious or worried during this coronavirus outbreak, I really would suggest doing some gentle moving to get grounded. It's so important. Yoga and stretching has always been a favourite of mine in times of anxiety. It helps me feel calm, find some peace and get back into a happier place. You can check out these instructors for some online yoga classes; Under the Bodhi Tree, Rosie Marwick and Beyond Move.
Get outside! If you are currently allowed to go for a walk in your country, GO!
Getting outside, getting into nature if possible, helps you get out of your head, calms you down and reduces feelings of stress. You can read more about why nature is good for you health here. If you can’t get outside then grab a cup of tea, look out the window or fill your house with some green and flowers! Flowers always help!
And my fifth suggestion to help reduce coronavirus anxiety is: listen to some healing frequency tracks.
This is absolutely one of my favourite calming, anxiety-quelling activities. YouTube has a wealth of choices and if you just type in ‘healing frequencies’ you can choose one you personally like. Here is one of my favourites; click here.
Remember, anxiety is an emotional state, caused by your own thinking.
So when you change your thinking, you change your feeling.
