Reprogramming for lasting change

Tired of making changes that don’t last?

How many resolutions have you set in the past? How many diets or new fitness regimes have you started before? How often have you tried to quit a bad habit? More than once I’m guessing. Each time, how long did the changes you tried to make actually last? Perhaps only several days, maybe weeks, or, with discipline, months. However, without reprogramming for lasting change what usually happens is that the weight creeps back on, the smoking starts again, or gym attendance goes down. We lose our sense of purpose and then feel demoralised.

Resonating just a little? Well, it doesn’t have to be like that if you know these 3 secrets.

Make life-long changes possible with reprogramming

I’ll share with you here and now the 3 reasons why my clients achieve continual success.

Most life coaches help their clients identify blocks and obstacles and then come up with a plan to go forward. Coaches help people feel motivated, productive and energised too.

But what they may not offer is a genuine internal shift for real change.

Why’s that a problem?

Well, simply because real change does not come just from having a plan or strategy, or simply feeling motivated and energised. Yes, those tools help, but for most humans, they have time limitations.

Here I share 3 reasons why most people don’t succeed with their desires. I explain what you need to do to ensure your change actually lasts, and your goals are met.

  1. Reprogramme mindset: Plans really only focus on habits and discipline, they don’t reach into our minds to work out how we truly function. Yet our mind is our most important tool to achieve what we want and ensure our changes actually stay in place. We literally do become what we think. Therefore, we must question ourselves: “What am I thinking?” and “Are these thoughts bringing me closer to my goal?”

  2. Channel pleasure: Most of us motivate ourselves by moving away from a sense of pain. For example, the pain of being overweight, the pain of being unfit, the pain of not having enough money. Most plans for change suggest ways of trying to get away from all the struggles, challenges and difficulties that the identified pain causes. In order to achieve a goal this way, we’d need to have a lot of discipline, and we all know how that can dwindle.

    So when trying to moving away from pain doesn’t work, what are we supposed to do instead? Well, real motivation, energy and drive come from feeling joy. Joy is found when we are moving towards pleasure.

    The pleasure of achieving our goal, the benefits of reaching our goal, and the positive feelings our goal will bring to us are key. Focusing on pleasure will not require as much discipline as moving away from pain does. After all, we want pleasure in our lives, don’t we? If we’re looking to become healthier, we need to begin focusing on all the ways this is going to bring pleasure in life and ensure the way we get to ultimate health includes a pleasurable journey. We just need to make sure what we do is actually fun!

  3. Free subconscious: Many of us don’t realise how much our subconscious restricts us. The easiest way to achieve all the things we want is to ensure that our internal belief system (which is not our thinking mind) is aligned with what we want.

    If we want to get rid of excess weight, if we want to be a size smaller, then our subconscious can’t think it needs to ‘lose’ weight. After all, what happens when we lose things? Well, we want to find them again. If we want to change to a job we love but our subconscious has thoughts that we are undeserving, then we will never break free of the old and come to the new. If we want to be rich, then our subconscious mind needs to believe that it is easy to earn money and being wealthy is a positive trait. In short, we need to reprogramme our subconscious to support our goals.
